I don't exactly remember how our conversation veered into this topic, but just last week my friend/ officemate Rica and I were talking about what we will do in case we win the lottery. My answer on impulse (and I know that this is horrible of me LOL) was that I will buy Nate Ruess (vocalist of my ultimate favorite band fun.), but after giving it a minute's thought, I decided I will just hire the band to play a private concert for me and my friends because I figured spending time with him before and after the concert will be inevitable since I would also be their host here in Manila. And then... after we spend time together, I will win him over with my dazzling personality and awesome sense of humor (ha ha ha) and he will fall in love with me. Perfect. ❤❤❤
Except, you know, how can I even win the lottery when I don't even play?
Well, guess what, I almost became a millionaire through my father.
As was his custom, he played the lottery last Friday (which was incidentally also his birthday) and got five out of six winning numbers right. FIVE OUT OF SIX. If he got all six correct, he would have won 26 million pesos! TWENTY SIX MILLION PESOS. Suddenly my dreams of living happily ever after with Nate Ruess didn't seem so far-fetched after all! (Did you know that on my birthday last year, I dreamt that he and Pink went to my house to sing for me? And then after Pink left, Nate stayed so we can make out. BEST. DREAM. EVER.)
Going back to the story. As it is, my father only got P14,000. Not bad, right? I still think it's unfair that there is such a disparity between the two prize pots, but 14K is 14K and no one would be able to get it just by sitting on his/ her ass all day. Besides, who said life is fair anyway?
Weirdly enough, I don't feel bad about it at all. Maybe because it has never crossed my mind that a chance at a huge windfall like that really exists.
So yeah, you're reading the blog of an almost millionaire who's also Nate's almost wife.
I don't even think about things I could've bought with the money. We would've bought a new house, of course, complete with a library with its own chandelier and photo booth for me - but that's it. No need beating myself out about a loss that, come to think of it, isn't really a loss since we still got something out of it.
How about you, what would you have bought with the prize money in case you won the lottery?

In my dreams, I would share my money with my family, like give them 1M each, donate some to charity and invest in businesses, like buy a Jollibee or something, lol… and make more money!
ReplyDeleteFavorite kong diskusyon tong "if manalo ng lotto"!!! :D Akkk swerte parin ni father infer! :)
ReplyDeletegrandest vacation for the whole family. :)) sa scratch and win lang ako nanalo but will keep tryin sa lotto :D
ReplyDeleteI would definitely want to give a sizable amount to charity. My friend also recommended that I buy one of those Lotto stations. :D
ReplyDeleteSarap mangarap, sis! :D
ReplyDeleteOooh a grand vacation sounds awesome! Ako I've never tried it haha, I want to though! :D

ReplyDelete"No need beating myself out about a loss that, come to think of it, isn't really a loss since we still got something out of it." Aww... very well said, Krissy. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd to your question, I usually think to myself, "Maybe if my family were rich as heck, I'd take a second Bachelor's degree or a graduate degree abroad." haha
14k is not bad at all! Feel ko pa naman fake yung lotto, baka sila sila lang din nananalo. Hopefully it's real. Haha :D Congrats, Krissy's dad! :)
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, a degree from a university abroad sounds great! It'll be much helpful in the long run, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Actually yun din ang feeling ko. :D Thanks, Helen!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college there was a rumor that Pres. GMA hires people every 2 months to bet on all possible combinations (back when the prize wasn't won for quite a while and reached jaw-dropping amounts!) It's so crazy I want it to be true!
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer getting 4 out of 6 numbers, than get 5.. because that would feel so damn painful.. As in hindi ako makakatulog nyan. If 4 lang, hindi masyado nakakahinayang. Sad. Sad. Sad.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that job doesn't sound easy at all! :D
ReplyDeleteHee, I really find it weird why I don't feel *that* bad about it. Maybe because I wasn't the one who played and almost won the lottery? Maybe if it was me I would feel really, really bad as well.
